My art merges imagination and memory, drawing on the people, style, pets and myths of my childhood. This era has always been my primary source of inspiration. From the time I could hold a pencil and write and draw I always seemed to have a sketch journal book attached to my arm and in progress. Inspired by my deep family roots in South Carolina, as a young girl I’d explore and study insects, trees, animals and all details in country forests. I’ve always been interested in the face and figure of humans and animals which led me to non-traditional portraiture, rendered with strong color, pattern and design. Inspired by my mother, I love humor and whimsical art that resists taking life too seriously.
Each work is both new and familiar, and my desire is to have every creation spring to life with color in the essense of the dog, human, robot, rooster or any subject I am inspired by. I can create something new yet familiar, a look back that creates curiosity for viewers of all ages. I work in a range of media, blending drawing, collage, painting, and elements found in nature.
Kind Regards,
Grace
